Carlos Peña
Carlos Peña is a Colombian singer-songwriter who introduces a mix of rhythms and eclectic sounds, influenced by genres like Folk, Blues, Salsa, Flamenco, Trova Cubana and Bossanova.
Carlos began his music career when he was 7 years old. He started out playing percussion, and then showed a great passion for a very special wind instrument of indigenous origins, called the “Sampoña”. This opened the door for music to enter his life and never leave. Later at the age of sixteen, he started to play the guitar and formed a band named Tripulantes (or The Crew) with his high school friends, David Garcia, Louie Naranjo and Tito Dussan. After a few of years of playing together, they decide to record their first and only album, Coctel Intergálactico (or Intergalactic Cocktail).
In the midst of 2014, after more than 10 years with his band, Carlos Peña moves to Tampa, Florida searching for inspiration to write his first solo album. Here, he not only finds inspiration but also finds the love of his life. In the next 2 years, Carlos Peña releases 3 singles, one produced by him, and starts his own record label, Q. Sounds.
This new chapter has given him the opportunity to perform at very prestigious venues, such as The Straz Center in Tampa, The Seminole Hard Rock Cafe, and was also invited to perform at the 2018 Mondo Festival in NYC.
“In my performance I incorporate several sounds as a “loop” that allow me to play different arrangements in real time, is a cool way to play live, I think is more enjoyable for me and the audience as well.” - Carlos Peña
